The Archaeological Reconnaissance & Computerization of Hobkirk's Hill (ARCHH) project is an effort to conduct a battlefield survey of the Hobkirk's Hill area in Camden, SC. The ARCHH team will be performing both a metal detector and collectors survey to document the 18th century artifacts found on Hobkirk's Hill. Results of the project will be posted here including photographs, locations, descriptions and other information related to the artifacts found. The ARCHH project team is using the professional-amateur cooperative archaelogy model, loosely based upon the successful BRAVO organization of New Jersey.  To learn more about the background of this Revolutionary War battle please enjoy reviewing the items under the "History of the Battle" menu above.  Pictured below is a map depicting the initial survey area for the project.

Initial Survey Area

This initial survey area is based on the map of opening battle positions drawn up by Captain Vallancey of the Volunteers of Ireland.  This survey area was also devised by considering a modern topographic map, anecdotal finds, historical accounts, and military logic.  Pictured below is the full topographical map that the survey area map above was taken from with a hand-drawn sketch of the battle movements.
